LostAlone February 2013 Tour

LostAlone have announced their first headline tour of 2013, with dates ranging from the 15th to the 24th of February.

LostAlone are without a doubt one of the best British bands to ever exist. They're one of my favourite bands and I've had the pleasure of seeing them live twice and meeting them afterwards - not only are they a really amazing band, they're also awesome guys too. They put on a great show; these upcoming shows have a promised 'HUGE headline set' which I'm excited for already, despite the shows being just under 3 months away.

For the super cheap price of only £7 per ticket (not including any booking fees), you should definitely go along to one of their shows, which are happening all across the country, and check them out! Support acts have yet to be announced but if previous LostAlone tours are anything to go by, they'll be almost as good as the headlining band themselves.

I've already bought my tickets to the Leeds show on 20/02/13 - tickets can be bought at the links below:

Song Of The Day: deadmau5 – Professional Griefers (feat. Gerard Way)

The result of what is possibly one of the unlikeliest collaborations in music between electro/dance music mogul deadmau5 and My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, Professional Griefers is probably one of my favourite tracks of the year. If I’m being completely honest, I only listened to it because Gerard features on it and I’m a dedicated MCR fan, but I’m super glad I did listen to it because, all bias aside, the song is so good.

Not only is it a really awesome song, it has the most expensive electronic dance music video to date accompanying it. The video and it’s concept as a whole are pretty cool, but my favourite part is 4:58 simply because Gerard’s reaction reminds me of Alan Grant in Jurassic Park when he first sees the dinosaurs.

So that’s the soundtrack of my day; I hope you like it as much as I do. It can be purchased on iTunes as part of deadmau5′s latest album ‘> album title goes here <’ here.

New Mindless Self Indulgence demo

As a result of reaching $100K on their Kickstarter campaign, the electropunk rockers have released a demo of a new track.

The Kickstarter campaign acts as ransom for the new Mindless Self Indulgence record, held captive by the band – only after the $150,000 pledge has been met will the album be released. In a random act of kindness that I, along with many other MSI fans, am extremely thankful for, singer Jimmy Urine debuted a demo of an unnamed song that can be heard below:

And it’s typical Mindless Self Indulgence – even with a more evolved sound, the track (even though it’s only at demo stage) is unlike anything any other band could even dream of creating, combining an insane infusion of sounds and crazy lyrics that make up the eclectic song that only MSI could pull off. With a track like this, I can’t even begin to imagine what their new record sounds like – all I know is that it will be completely awesome and I really hope the band reach their $150K pledge because that is one album that the world needs to hear.

To release the new Mindless Self Indulgence record that’s currently being held hostage, head on over to their Kickstarter page and make a pledge, with donations ranging from a mere $1 to $5000 – fans who pledge don’t go unrewarded either, with prizes including digital downloads of the album, bassist Lynz Way’s tour shirts and having your name featured on one of the album’s song names. Basically, some of these rewards are completely once-in-a-lifetime so please go and support the band by making a pledge towards the new MSI album!

Conventional Weapons Number Two

My Chemical Romance, possibly one of the best rock bands in existence, unveiled the second set of songs from their scrapped album on Friday.

Conventional Weapons is its own era in the band’s discography, a post-Black Parade and pre-Danger Days secret album that fans could only have dreamed of hearing. So when guitarist Frank Iero broke the news that two songs from the record would be released per month running from October 2012 to February 2013, the whole fan base exploded.

After the release of ‘Boy Division’ and ‘Tomorrow’s Money’ last month, which are both completely phenomenal and can be purchased here, it’s safe to say that I was super excited for ‘Gun.’ and ‘AMBULANCE,’ which the band posted on their official YouTube account yesterday. Whilst the songs are no Conventional Weapons Number One (which is going to be extremely hard to match, those songs are amazing), they are definitely worth checking out, and can be heard below:

Both are melodic anthems boasting a sound that the band have obviously put their hearts and souls into creating; ‘AMBULANCE’ reminds me more and more of Queen every time I listen to it and ‘Gun.’ is just incredible in general, with lyrics that just beg you to sing along; it’s clear that these are the songs that led to the creation of the 15-track wonder that is ‘Danger Days,’ MCR’s most evolved sound to date. The songs that make up ‘Conventional Weapons’ so far show exactly how versatile My Chemical Romance are – the difference in the songs is almost astonishing yet all four tracks are inconceivably good, to put it mildly.

Conventional Weapons Number Two is now available to download on iTunes, and can currently be ordered on vinyl from the band’s official website here. Other CW merchandise and vinyl’s are available to purchase here, and more will be available to buy as the further songs are released.

Future track-listing and release dates from Conventional Weapons are as follows…

LostAlone Christmas Show 2012

LostAlone have announced their annual hometown Christmas show, featuring some very special guests.

LostAlone will headline their 2012 Christmas show on 21/12/12 in their hometown of Derby alongside some of the UK’s best bands – it’s basically my dream line-up. In support of LostAlone will be Fearless Vampire Killers, Follow You Home (another two of my favourite bands) and Crushing Blows, also featuring a DJ set from Matt Stocks, resident DJ of Kerrang! Radio. This show really is going to completely phenomenal, and it’s definitely one of the best, if slightly unconventional, ways to celebrate Christmas 2012.

And if that’s not enough, after the show LostAlone hold a karaoke party, featuring singer/guitarist Steven Battelle singing ‘big diva anthems,’ as I found out after seeing the band supporting Tonight Alive in Leeds. Basically, the Christmas show is going to be all kinds of awesome. And how amazing is the poster promoting the gig!?

Tickets for what will potentially be one of the best shows you will ever go to in your entire life are a mere £10, and can be bought from www.thevictoriainnderby.co.uk/lostalone, or over the phone by calling (01332) 204873. I'm genuinely devastated that I won't be able to go, so people need to buy tickets and have a great time for me.

Kerrang! Tour 2013

Back in October, after months of anticipation, the bands and dates of the annual Kerrang! Tour for 2013 were finally announced.

And the majority of the line-up is great. Upon learning that Fearless Vampire Killers would be playing, I was ecstatic for them – I’m a huge fan of this band, so it’s amazing that they’ll finally be getting the recognition they deserve by playing to thousands of people across the UK. Whilst I can’t vouch for Chiodos, I’ve heard from a number of fairly reliable sources that they’re also worth a listen. Aussie band Tonight Alive are also an amazing addition to the tour; I was lucky enough to go along to their show at The Cockpit in Leeds on 02/10/12, and although I went to see LostAlone (one of my personal favourite bands) who were supporting Tonight Alive, I was completely blown away by them; they are fast becoming one of my favourite bands.

The only downfall of the 2013 Kerrang! Tour is the headlining band, the controversial Black Veil Brides. While I understand that BVB are insanely popular, I can’t help but think of them as the One Direction of rock music. My reasoning behind this is that there are very few people who think they’re simply OK – you either love them or you hate them; they also have an extremely supportive, though at times overprotective, fan base full of screaming (and at times, psycho) fangirls. I’m one of the people who really can’t comprehend their popularity, though they’re obviously very successful as a band, and it’s a great opportunity for them to be headlining such a tour even if they won’t always be met with a positive reaction from the crowd.

Regardless of my opinion of Black Veil Brides, for many people, the Kerrang! Tour 2013 will have a perfect line-up. I just feel as though it’s the three opening bands, Fearless Vampire Killers, Chiodos and Tonight Alive that will really make the tour one to remember.

Pre-sale tickets for the Kerrang! Tour 2013 are available exclusively at www.aloud.com and general sale tickets are also avaliable. At £16.50 and with such a wide-spread tour, it’s definitely worth going along to check out all of the bands playing, especially as they offer such a variety of sounds.

Fearless Vampire Killers – Exploding Heart Disorder video

The five-piece rock band who hail from London unveiled the video for their upcoming single, Exploding Heart Disorder.

And while it lacks the signature theatricality of the Fearless Vampire Killers, the video still manages to capture the sheer essence of the band perfectly.

Featuring the boys without their make-up and expected attire, the video has a personal edge to it, showcasing five friends doing what they love most and having the time of their lives together whilst also giving fans a glimpse into the pure energy and dedication that goes into the recording process. The video reflects the song in this way, mixing heavy riffs with soft melodies, a trademark sound of the music created by FVK. Yet this song, and its video, is unlike anything the band has ever pulled off before. Exploding Heart Disorder shows Fearless Vampire Killers at their best yet, and with such a promising journey ahead of them, the unexpected needs to be expected.

The single was released alongside ‘Palace In Flames’ as a double A-side single on November 5th 2012 via iTunes and other good retailers. Check out Fearless Vampire Killers on Twitter here.

LostAlone – Vesuvius + Creatures release

Derby-based rock band LostAlone released their latest singles Vesuvius and Creatures on November 5th, the fourth and fifth singles to come from their amazing second album, I’m A UFO In This City.

The video for Vesuvius showcases 4 minutes and 14 seconds of exactly what you can expect from a LostAlone show; 110% effort, some of the most talented and downright incredible playing of instruments you will ever see and overall, just plain awesomeness. Plus, the video has some pretty cool lights and a quick shot of singer/guitarist Steven Battelle doing push-ups. What’s not to love!?

The Creatures video is a compilation of LostAlone and focuses more on the band members themselves, featuring the band during the recording process and in a variety of other locations - my personal favourite is the rowing scene. The video basically shows the sheer dedication that the band have to their music, and also brings across their personalities more too; though the video is the polar opposite of the Vesuvius video, it's still completely awesome. They really can pull just about anything off!

Vesuvius was released alongside Creatures on November 5th – both tracks can be found on the band’s second album, I’m A UFO In This City, which can be purchased from Amazon here. Check out LostAlone on Twitter too!

No Doubt – ‘Push And Shove’ song review

The title song from No Doubt’s long-awaited sixth studio album, ‘Push And Shove’ (released September 25th via Interscope Records), gained it’s world premiere on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.

And it is amazing. ‘Push And Shove,’ the second single to be released from the band’s first album in over a decade, stays true to No Doubt’s original sound whilst exploring elements of the revamped style of a modern day No Doubt, echoing the sound of the band’s comeback single ‘Settle Down,’ and combining all of this with a style reminiscent of vocalist Gwen Stefani’s dance-pop solo career. The song also features reggae artist Busy Signal and rapper Major Lazer.

‘Push And Shove’ mixes all of these different styles at the same time and makes it work in a way that no other band could. No Doubt are one of the few bands that can change and experiment with their sound and still have their music be instantly recognised, due to their soaring choruses and signature reggae-influenced ska sound. And ‘Push And Shove’ is no exception; the ever-changing rhythm and many different influences add to and compliment No Doubt’s sound perfectly, giving them a song that bassist Tony Kanal describes as the band's own 'Bohemian Rhapsody.'

Overall, ‘Push And Shove’ really is an incredible song guaranteed to gain the band a whole new generation of fans whilst also appealing to their life-long fans. And despite how long No Doubt were gone, I’m glad they’re back and creating music together again. The song is a prime example of the bands new album and its completely phenomenal sound.

You can listen to ‘Push And Shove’ below, let me know your thoughts on it!

blink-182 20th Anniversary tour review

Sheffield Motorpoint Arena, 17/06/12 w/ special guests, Twin Atlantic and The All-American Rejects.

Setlists: blink-182 , The All-American Rejects, Twin Atlantic.

I first discovered blink-182 when I was 10 years old and have been a firm fan ever since, so to say I was excited for this show would be an understatement. Whilst waiting for the doors to open, it became obvious that I wasn’t the only person who felt this way – there were thousands of people queuing alongside me, a whole host of both new and old fans who were ecstatic to see this legendary band, in celebration of their 20th anniversary. As Tom DeLonge (vocals and guitar) said during the show, blink-182 never expected to be headlining an UK arena tour 20 years prior to the gig. Their dream would easily have been fulfilled by playing clubs for the rest of their lives, and they would have been lucky to do that – yet here they are, selling out shows worldwide and playing to millions of dedicated fans across the planet.

Twin Atlantic.

These dedicated fans also include Scottish rockers Twin Atlantic, one of the supporting bands for a series of dates throughout the tour. During their set, frontman Sam McTrusty (lead vocals and rhythm guitar) reminisced over his first ever concert, which turned out to be blink-182, an experience shared with many of the audience before him. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much from Twin Atlantic – though I had checked them out before the gig and thought they were fairly good, I’d heard from a variety of sources that they weren’t actually that great. However, all of these sources were so wrong – Twin Atlantic are incredible. It’s not often that you see a band that is really great live, and especially not a supporting band, but Twin Atlantic are one of the few bands that truly are. They worked their small set list and limited stage time to their advantage, progressing from lesser-known songs such as ‘Apocalyptic Renegade’ to what are potentially their biggest hits so far – ‘Make A Beast Of Myself’ and ‘Free.’ Listening back to their latest album now, I realise just how clever this band are – the majority of their songs are perfectly arena-worthy, with the loud guitar riffs, distinctive vocals and memorable melodies. Overall, Twin Atlantic are an amazing band with an equally amazing journey, which has developed from idolizing blink-182 to playing on the same bill as them. And maybe the best thing about this band is that it’s obvious that they are fully aware of how far they’ve come, and don’t take any of it for granted – they have as much fun onstage as the crowd do listening to them.

The All-American Rejects

This was also the case with The All-American Rejects who opened with one of their most well-known songs ‘Dirty Little Secret,’ a catchy song to which the crowd were incredibly receptive. By this point, the bright atmosphere of the crowd was contagious, the intensity electrifying; there wasn’t one unsmiling face in the entire venue. With this opening, I was expecting a fun set from this band, and so can’t help but feel a little disappointed with this band’s set list. They have so many brilliant songs that could have only enhanced the crowd’s mood, yet they played only a few of these songs, including what is, in my opinion, the best song on their new album – ‘Kids in the Street.’ However, this disappointment was soon forgotten due to frontman Tyson Ritter (lead vocals and bass guitar) who continually entertained the audience before him with what can only be described as cheeky banter and energetic dancing. Halfway through the set, he echoed Twin Atlantic’s McTrusty in reminiscing over his first concert; again, blink-182. To be supporting the band in the UK was obviously a huge honour for The All-American Rejects. Despite their mediocre set list, the band put 110% in their performance, playing with an upbeat energy, culminating with one of their best songs, ‘Gives You Hell.’ This was a huge crowd-pleaser and had everyone singing along, leaving everyone in the venue with high spirits in the wait before blink-182.

blink-182

Rocking straight into ‘Feeling This,’ blink-182 finally came on stage for their first UK tour since the announcement of their indefinite hiatus way back in 2005 with a backdrop of neighbourhood houses, paying homage to their comeback album ‘Neighborhoods.’ The fans went wild, singing along with their favourite band, who had been dearly missed. The set list (which can be viewed here) was a perfect mix of old and new, switching from ‘Up All Night,’ blink’s first single in 7 years, to the first song I ever heard by them, ‘The Rock Show.’ Every song was met with an unbelievable response from the crowd, with mosh pits and crowd surfing erupting from the very first song. By this point, the excitement had gotten too much for some people who had to be dragged out over the barriers. The newer songs marked an obvious change in blink-182’s music, with a more mature edge adding to their usual pop-punk sound; despite this edge, blink-182 will never be able to strive away from their younger days, with the obscene yet slightly genius lyrics of the closing song, ‘Family Reunion’ – this was reflected in the jokes made between songs, the bright backdrops of skulls and bananas, and also in the onstage atmosphere; between Tom, Mark (Hoppus, vocals and bass guitar) and Travis (Barker, drums), it was easy to tell how happy they were to be playing music together again. The atmosphere of the whole show was phenomenal; the fans came together as one, both young and old, shouting along and dancing to their favourite band without a care in the world. This was only emphasized in a surprise acoustic two-song set of ‘Reckless Abandon’ and ‘All Of This’ performed in the middle of the crowd by Mark and Tom halfway through the set – during this, Mark told the story of how one of the band’s biggest inspirations, Robert Smith (lead vocals for legendary band, The Cure) ended up singing on ‘All Of This,’ one of blink-182’s best songs and an absolutely incredible collaboration. After the raw sound of the guitars and the vocals from the acoustic set, Travis got to exhibit his extraordinary drumming talents, with ‘Can A Drummer Get Some’ from his 2011 solo album, accompanied by a striking light show and dancing provided by his children, Landon and Alabama. The band then performed their final three songs, with Mark’s famous pink bass guitar, featured in videos such as ‘The Rock Show,’ ‘Feeling This’ and ‘Always,’ making an appearance. Confetti cannons shot out over the fans and, with Mark announcing “this is what we in the industry call the grand finale…” before striking a final chord, the most perfect gig ever met its end.

Travis Barker’s drum solo

And though blink-182 are one of my favourite bands, when I say that the concert was perfect, I’m not biased in the slightest – though it may not be expected, blink-182 were genuinely completely flawless, despite being well into the UK leg of the tour. They sound exactly like they do on their albums, if not better – and it wasn’t just the band, it was the build-up, the atmosphere, the fans. Those who were attending their first ever gig will be left severely let-down by any other band they see because blink-182 were just incredible, amazing, awesome, out of this world. Even that doesn’t describe how good they were. The only thing slightly wrong with the show was that some of their best songs weren’t included in the set list (though obviously they can’t play all of their songs), including ‘This Is Home’ from the new album – the lyrics of which would have described the show perfectly – and those who are massive fans of blink-182’s early songs would also have been disappointed. The majority of blink’s greatest hits were also played very early on in the set list, though with so many amazing songs, this can’t be avoided; I fully expected them to close with ‘All The Small Things,’ not ‘Dammit’ or ‘Carousel.’ However, blink-182 are always going to a band that exceed everyone’s expectations, in the best way possible. And this is just one of the reasons that I am so unbelievably happy to have seen the trio who are best described as the pioneers of pop-punk. They have influenced, and led the way for, many different bands over the past 20 years of their outstanding career, from bands like All Time Low and (less obviously) Panic! At The Disco who began as a blink-182 cover band, to My Chemical Romance, whose guitarist, Frank Iero, skipped school in order to get a copy of blink’s debut album Cheshire Cat in 1994, and recently toured with as part of America’s renowned Honda Civic Tour. The past two decades have been incredible for blink-182, completely unparalleled by any other band, and I have no doubt that the band will only grow to be more of an inspiration to millions of fans, bands and music lovers across the globe for many years to come.

“The grand finale…”

My rating? As you can probably imagine, from everything I’ve written above, blink-182 get 10/10. They were truly amazing and I wish I was going to see them again already!

Introductions...

Hi, just thought I'd introduce myself before I get started with writing for my blog.

My name's Paige Lambie, I'm 17 years old and I'm currently in my final year of A Levels in a little town called Driffield.

I’m a huge fan of music, and have been ever since I can remember, so setting up a blog purely dedicated to music seemed like a really awesome idea. One of my biggest dreams in life has always been to work within some aspect of the music industry; music management is what I'm hoping to study at university.

My favourite genre of music is rock, and all sub-genres of rock, so ‘The Music Paige’ will mostly be focused on rock music. The blog will include reviews, updates on the latest music news and lots of posts about my favourite bands (though I promise to try and be as unbiased as possible!)

Some of my favourite bands include LostAlone, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Follow You Home, blink-182, No Doubt, Fearless Vampire Killers, Panic! At The Disco, Misfits and Smashing Pumpkins. I'm a member of the street teams of both LostAlone and Follow You Home, and I'm also involved with a local band named Yeti, who I'm helping to play some more shows in the area. I'm currently teaching myself to play electric guitar too, which I've been wanting to do since I was about 6/7.

So that's a little bit about me. My first few posts will be posts copied from my Wordpress blog (http://themusicpaige.wordpress.com/) and then I'll get on with writing things for both here and my other blog.
